I'm trying to find out what the best way to tie down equipment (Tools, cooler, etc.) in the back area of the vehicle. What do you all use?

I use flat straps with click snaps to secure them. Usually I get them on line from surplus sites like Sportsmans Guide. (https://www.sportsmansguide.com/productlist?k=straps) third one is almost 5 feet long.
Without tie down points almost any strap system is rather useless. How one attaches the tie down points can be challenging. Although many newer vehicles come with them or at least a place where they can be bolted in.
Your 4Runner should be equipped with points.
I tried bungie straps but there is too much give in them to make them safe for off road.

I know folks that swear by these but I think they are a bit pricey for me.

I have several pairs of stratchits, I love them and would buy more! I use them for inside gear and on my roof rack.

I have heard good things from friends about the ROK straps, they are for motorcycles but I know a few people that have used them for the past few years with very good results.
