Intelligent Winch

I'm not really seeing the benefit but I see several downsides.

so it's a winch on a pivot with a little guard to spool the cable?

first time he's worked with a winch without any problems? he must be doing something wrong.

How much side load can those linear actuators take? I would guess not much.

And did anyone else think while watching that: why aren't you just driving up that hill? It was steep, but it didn't look that bad. That Land Rover surely has lockers, right?

That looks like the type of winch I see advertised for ATV use.
Never did show what they tied off to.
